The son of renowned artist Edward Kozak he was shaped by early experiences of wartime displacement before immigrating to the US (1948). He earned a BFA and MFA from Wayne State University (Detroit), completing postgraduate studies in painting and drawing in 1971. His artistic outlook reflects both his family lineage and
rigorous academic training.
