According to the artist, "A bounty hunter is hot on the trails of his prey. He is part of the dark recesses of our history, when slaves who held rebellions like Denmark Vesey, were hunted like animals. It is true this painting, like all paintings depicting history, can be interpreted in many ways. This after all, is an actor portraying a ruthless bounty hunter."
